General information for hunting on the
10.000 hectare large Farm Osema / Gusinde

  • Wounded game is considered shot.
  • If required rifles and ammunition can be provided against a fee.
  • Prices for rifles or bow hunting are the same.

Recommendations:

Depending on the kind of game you want to hunt you need to plan at least eight days, this gives you time to adjust physically and mentally to the beautiful, amazing but challenging landscape of Namibia. For a successful hunt and an unforgettable experience it is necessary to get a feel for the uniqueness of Namibia, the light, the distance - Africa commands you to revise your European/North American hunting experience.

For the hunt on eland, the world biggest antelope, leopard or cheetah you need to plan about 14 days. The eland male is extremely shy and careful, the leopard is a very intelligent and dangerous hunter himself, and the cheetah is a vagabond consequently the territory of its whereabouts are hard to make out and more than usual good luck has to be your companion when hunting a cheetah.

Since September 11th 2001 you also need a licence for your rifle when leaving your own country. In Germany you are allowed to export 40 bullets ammunition, please inform yourself about your country specific requirements - before leaving for the airport! Only hunting rifles are allowed.

Some words regarding the calibre of your rifle and the kind of ammunition

After many years of hunting the strong and robust African game we recommend the following:

  • 8x68 S and/or the universal calibre 300 Win. Mag.
  • For elephants and buffaloes, e.g.: 416 Re. Mag. Solid and Softpoint

Should you not want to bring your own rifle or bow, your are welcome to use rifles and bows we provid for a daily fee.

A hunting licence is not necessary in Namibia. At all times you are accompanied by a professional hunter.

Hunting

  • Is always with a professional hunter and a tracker
  • Before starting the hunt you need to do a trial shot
  • Hunting in Namibia means hunting in the absolute wilderness - the professional hunter will recognise the trophy you want to hunt immediately, while placing the shot is all your responsibility
  • Hunting in Namibia is very different to Europe, North America, the endless savannah, the unpolluted air and the strength of the light mean new challenges for experienced hunters
  • Hunters without any previous experience can be assured that they will be carefully and thoroughly prepared for their first hunting experience by our team
  • Most of the time you will leave the lodge by an off-road vehicle to continue on foot or to install yourself in a blind in the in the area where the wanted game is to be expected
  • The horses are used to shooting and can also be used for hunting
  • The car will be used for the transportation of the hunted game and the trophies
  • Please do not forget your binoculars, knife, and flashlight

Recommended clothing

  • Sand colour cotton clothing
  • High boots, heavy and light
  • Headwear
  • From June until the end of August you will need warm clothing and gloves for the cold hours in the morning and in the evening
  • Do not forget your glasses and sunglasses
  • Lip protection
  • Individual medicine if required - most German / European / American medicine is available in Namibia
  • Malaria prophylaxis is not required, should you want to travel to the North of Namibia, Etosha Pan or the Caprivi during the Namibian summer period, ask your GP which medicine she/he recommends
  • Please check previous to your departure for Namibia if all your normal vaccinations are still lasting, rabies, polio, FSME, hepatitis A, should be sufficient
  • Your passport has to be at least valid for another six months when coming to Namibia

On request we can organize hunting safaris to North Namibia or other countries of Southern Africa, which are home to elephants, buffaloes, lions and crocodiles. Flights and other necessary transportation are going to be charged separately.

Non hunting companions, family and friends are very welcome as well. At Burg Gusinde or Osema Farmhaus they can relax, be spoiled, go hiking, go for a walk, make game drive, horse riding, ride a quad bike and explore some of the 10,000 ha all by themselves, go fishing, or have a swim in the outdoor pool, make sauna, star gaze with a computerised telescope, read their way through the library or just enjoy life and the view from the terrace at 1800 m altitude over the hills and mountains of Otjihavera, expecting the hour of the sun downer and the breath taking minutes of the sun set, until you are back and share your exciting hunting experiences.

Best regards, good luck, good hunting, and have a safe journey!
